It’s Thanksgiving week and that can only mean one thing: we’re going to stuff ourselves. Thursday most Americans are going to overload on turkey, dressing and pumpkin pie. And after we wake up from our food coma, we’ll go back for more. Stuffing ourselves with food is pretty much how most Americans live their lives...we’re busy trying to stuff our lives: stuffing our wallets, stuffing our homes, stuffing our calendars, stuffing our social media. It seems the goal in life is to try to fill our lives with anything and everything that might make us happy. But is being stuffed the way God is calling us to live?
There may be no subject more troubling to more people than the one posed by our sermon title. Why does a good God let bad things happen to people? It’s a question we often ask when we are the ones suffering and in pain. Today we will prayerfully lean into this big question and find some good answers.
The topic of hell raises plenty of questions and concerns. It is often dismissed, rejected as too uncomfortable and unreasonable to our modern mindset. The only way to reject hell is to reject the Bible’s authority. The Bible teaches four fundamental truths about hell.
One argument against the church is the people in the church. Unfortunately, it’s a valid argument. Why are there so many hypocrites in church and how do we deal with this real issue?

In a world of hearts far from God and hearts divided in devotion to God, we need a cure for our heart trouble. The Bible is a book that tells of the only cure. We need a new heart.
In our Walk Thru the Old Testament we move today into the prophets of the Lord. We’ve said that among the first kings of Israel Saul had no heart for God. David had a whole heart for God. Solomon had a divided heart for God. The legacy of Solomon’s divided heart is the focus of the prophets.
This morning, we will look at Saul and David. Both were appointed kings over Israel by God, but their hearts led them to make choices that took them in very different directions.
Big transitions, changes, adjustments, and challenges call out our greatest fears. What we do with those fears is a key factor in our success moving forward. Joshua’s example has much to teach us.
Even when we think God doesn’t care, He is watching closely with compassion. He hears us when we pray and walks with us through our trials. He has a solution for whatever problem we face. He knows the way out. He is the God who delivers.
