The Bible sometimes tells us about Jesus preaching to multitudes but often, we find Jesus in conversations, one person at a time. Today we will see Jesus moving through a Gospel conversation and learn how we can follow His example.
“Clean up your act”, “get your life together” …these are phrases used to talk about self-improvement. Self-improvement is not the goal of the gospel. The gospel is about making things “new”. Being made new isn’t something that is accomplished on our own. We all need it but none of us can do it. So, what’s the answer?
Our picture of Jesus is often one who is loving, kind, compassionate, and caring. Those are accurate descriptions, but they are not all we see of Jesus in the gospels. Jesus didn’t shy away from confrontation, especially when it came to things that hindered or distracted people from His father.
Jesus chose to perform His first miracle at a wedding in Cana. It was the first of seven “signs” recorded in John’s gospel. Today we’ll learn about the purpose of Christ’s miracles and how they reveal His glory.
Today our series in the Gospel of John focuses on John the Baptizer. His world was as broken and self-absorbed as ours but The Baptist maintained a God-honoring purpose of pointing to Jesus in everything.
The story of the Bible isn’t primarily the story of people desiring to be with God. It’s the story of the desire of God to be with people. Jesus came as God “with us.” In John 1 we find a description of Jesus and what that means for our lives.
Today we begin a new series from John’s gospel account of the life of Jesus. John shares stories and teaching that are unique to his gospel with 93% not found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. He also tells us his purpose in writing – “that you might believe”.
Happy Easter! Today we celebrate the Risen Christ who died on the cross for our sins. The victory of the resurrection is the source of all our hopes for forgiveness of sin, relationship to God, and eternal life in heaven. Today we celebrate our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The heart of God is that we should be in relationship with Him. We see the full extent of his love and desire for that relationship on the cross. On Palm Sunday we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. But we know that this was also a funeral march. Jesus was focused on His Father’s heart. Jesus was going to the cross.
Do you need hope? Some people need hope in one unsteady area of life. Maybe it's in marriage, the workplace, or health. For others, everything feels overwhelming and hopeless. In today's Bible story we will learn that if a broken man, in a broken world condemned to die on a cross can find hope in Jesus, so can we.
