The Gift of Life (2022)

Each of the Ten Commandments carries with it some key value in the plan, will, and economy of God that is at stake and the commandment is designed to uphold. The sixth commandment points to one of the most significant values of all in God’s kingdom, the gift of God we call human life.

Family Really Does Matter

Honor your father and mother is so much more than a verse that we teach our children so that they will obey. This commandment is about honoring the authority of God and learning how to love others. And it starts at home. Home is where we first learn to love our neighbor as ourselves—the family matters to God.

The Gift of God's Day

When God gave Moses a list of ten commandments for living a life that honored Him, God included a day of rest. God put it right up there with “Don’t steal,” “Don’t murder,” “Don’t commit adultery.” How do we honor this gift from God? As a part of our worship time, we will honor the Lord through observing the Lord’s Supper.

It's More Than That

When most people look at the third commandment, they think, “Well, I don’t cuss or use God’s name in a cuss word, so I’m all good.” Well, that’s good, but the commandment is so much more than that. What does it mean to misuse or take the Lord’s name in vain? It starts with remembering you were made in the image of God and how you live your life as his image-bearer.

Accept No Substitutes

It may surprise you that the most repeated commandment of all the Ten Commandments is the second. The word “idol” or “idolatry” appears over 220 times in the Bible. There is more denunciation of idolatry than any other sin in the Bible. What is “idolatry”? It is more common than you think.

Worthy of Worship

God Said

As we begin 2022 there is again a desire to return to “normal” that seems to elude us. God declared the Ten Commandments to a people who had left all that was “normal” for them in order to lead them to know Him. The Ten Commandments still declare what is most relevant, real, and lasting in life. Wanting what God wants for us is what life is really about.

The State of Our Current State

We want to begin well on this first Sunday of a new year. The Apostle Paul calls us to “examine ourselves”. It’s a good time to evaluate our relationship to God. God is certainly examining us. Here are five questions that can serve as a spiritual diagnostic to help evaluate and examine the state of your soul in relation to the true and living God.

Living in the Light

Christmas is over, and it's time to put the decorations back in the box until next year. This annual tradition sort of mirrors how many of us treat God…we put him away until we need him. This may come as a shock, but that's not how it's supposed to be with God. God has called us to a relationship. A life lived in His light. How do we do that? What does that life look like? Read: Luke 2:36-38

Light of the World

There are times in life when darkness seems to overwhelm our story. The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus is the Light of the World. Today we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, and we will be reminded again that the Savior turns our famines into feasts.
