Your legacy is the story of your life that lives on after you leave this earth. You write this story every day through the values you embrace and live out. Your legacy can be positive or destructive, but the outcome is always up to you. What legacy are you building for your family?
Marriage today takes on a variety of inferior definitions. Marriage is God’s idea and it flourishes when following God’s vision for what a blessed marriage should be. God has a plan for marriage and it’s more than companionship or legal commitment. It’s about a covenant.
One of the toughest jobs in the world is to be a parent. Most parents are just trying not to mess things up when it comes to raising their kids. There’s a lot of opinions out there on how to be a good parent. It’s important that, as a follower of Christ, we filter all the parental advice through what God wants for us as parents. Are we “kingdom” parents or “culture” parents?
The Bible is largely a story about families – real families. The amazing part of those stories is that God uses imperfect, struggling families to accomplish His eternal purposes. He can do the same with you and your family. Over the next several weeks, we’ll explore what the Bible says about the big problems we face in families and find hope in God’s redeeming, restoring, amazing grace.
Today we conclude our series from the Gospel of John. John tells us the reason for his gospel, “These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31, ESV). The last chapter of John presses the issue further. Believing is important but do you really love Jesus?
As followers of Christ, we are an “Easter” people. We serve a risen Savior! The empty tomb turned the world upside down. It wasn’t just an event in history. It was an amazing moment that displayed the power of God and gives us strength for today and hope for tomorrow. The resurrection gives us a whole new perspective on life and eternity.
“God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.’” (Billy Graham)
In John 18 we find Jesus taking a deliberate, purpose-filled journey to the cross where He would die to pay for the sins of world. It is a story that involves interactions with key personalities. While there are great lessons to be learned and applications to be made, one truth is clear – Jesus is King!
Today we are going to talk about the High Priestly prayer of Jesus recorded in John 17 but our big goal is to actually pray. When it comes to prayer, most Christians talk about it, study it, lament our failures in it, question its usefulness, and neglect its power but the one thing we don’t do well or often or faithfully to is actually pray. This morning we will share what Jesus prayed in John 17 and then, individually and in small groups, we will take time to pray. We’ve been learning a lot about prayer as a church because we’ve been actively seeking opportunities to actually pray for people in specific ways. Our outreach to our city is built on a foundation of first of all caring about our city through prayer. Today we will pray together for our church, for one another, and for God’s work outside our walls. There is great power from God when His people gather to pray.
One of the struggles for many people today is we believe lies about ourselves. Often, the lies are things we tell ourselves. But the truth of God is that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to do “God-sized” things. Because of God, we can have a greater impact than we could ever imagine.
