Today we continue our new series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Paul tells us in Galatians 5 that there is fruit produced in the life of a believer. These things reflect the character of Christ flowing through us into the world. When you belong to Jesus these things start showing up in ever-increasing ways.
When you are truly a growing follower of Jesus, it shows in several uniquely Christlike characteristics that come to define your character. Today we introduce a new series on the fruit of the Spirit.
Jesus’ invitation to His earliest disciples was simply to follow. He invited them to follow His teaching. He invited them to follow His example. Jesus still invites all who would to follow Him. The call extends throughout whatever a day may hold and on into eternity.
As Christians we are not “trailblazers,” we are Christ followers. God does not want us to make our own paths or go our own way. He wants us to follow Jesus. We must go where He has called us to go. That means we walk where He walks, careful to make sure we are following in His steps, no matter where they lead.
One of the hardest parts of being a follower of Jesus is taking the first step. So much is competing for our hearts and minds that it keeps some people from saying yes to Jesus. It’s important for us to know what saying yes to Jesus means for us. Are you willing to move from a “would be” follower to taking the first step?
In our city, one of the greatest barriers to following Jesus is our success. Most people don’t think they need God for a Savior. Today we look at the promising but ultimately disappointing story of a man who wanted to follow Jesus but walked away instead. Jesus defines “following”. What does it require to follow Him?
As we follow Jesus through the Gospels, one thing becomes clear: Jesus lived a life of devoted prayer. If we are to follow Jesus, we will follow His example in prayer.
Matthew, a tax collector, accepted Jesus’ invitation to follow. He left everything for Jesus. The first thing he did, was to host a party and invite all of his other friends who were also tax collectors to his home. How could we strategically use our homes to reach our neighbors for Christ?
Following Jesus means we follow His teaching and we follow His example. Today we’ll explore what it means to follow Jesus in baptism.
To be a disciple of Jesus is to follow Jesus. To follow Jesus is to walk in His steps and align with His priorities and example. When we follow Jesus we share His heart for children.
