Solomon was incredibly successful, and his success was evident because of the wealth he had. Yet, late in his life, Solomon came to be driven and possessed by all he had. Earlier in his life, Solomon had some wise biblical advice on money management AND contentment. This week we look at his frustrations of Ecclesiastes and the wisdom of Proverbs.
Information addiction is a phenomenon in which people become excessively reliant on technology and the internet for information and communication. It can lead to negative consequences such as social isolation, difficulty focusing on tasks, and a lack of physical activity. More importantly, it is not how God designed us to be. In fact, from the very beginning, man has been trying to gain more information to know more than we are supposed to know.
One of my all-time favorite Bible characters is Elijah. He’s bigger than life. He has a series of miracles wrapped around his life and ministry AFTER a long time with few miracles from God. He is fearless in taking on kings and false prophets and hardship…BUT after one of his biggest victories on Mount Carmel…shaming the false prophets and Baal and proving there is only one God…the LORD…his life is threatened by evil Queen Jezebel, and he runs for his life. God reaches out to Elijah in the wilderness…this great prophet who has accomplished so much, and here’s what Elijah says to the Lord, “Enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers” (1 Kings 19:4, CSB). THEN he says, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of armies; for the sons of Israel have abandoned Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they have sought to take my life” (1 Kings 19:10, CSB)
