What happens when you give?
Your giving supported children's and youth programs that provided a strong faith foundation for our son and ensured his eternal destiny.
My husband and I married in 1976 and, as most young couples, we wanted to start a family. Year after year passed, still no children. We thought God wasn’t answering our prayers but, God’s timing is something we will never understand. In 1991, God made His plan known to us and in March of ’91, we went to Romania and brought back two young boys, John, who was 3 and Andrew, who turned a month old the day we got back to Allen.
By the time John was 10, he’d been given numerous diagnosis of disorders, ADHD, ODD, OCD, and Bi-polar disorder. John was like many others with bi-polar, he did not want to take his medication, he enjoyed the emotional highs, he survived the emotional lows, he did not want to feel emotionless "blah," as he called it. On the night of January 2, 2016 John succumbed to his mental illness and took his own life. What a heartbreak and devastation that was to our family. No one should ever have to go through that as a parent, as a sibling, no one. We were brokenhearted, we were angry, we even said, "why God?" It was a devastating loss for us, but God was gracious, He was always there. He’s still always here. In the next few days of pain, heartache, and sorrow, God was our provider, our Redeemer, our loving Father.
Our church, THIS church, circled around us and supported us with everything that they had. They were there that Saturday night, they were there again Sunday after church. And over the next week they brought us food and they brought us things we needed in the home so we didn’t have to go out and get them.
When we look back over the 24 years that John was a part of our lives, we realized that this church was always there for us. They were the ones who provided the foundation for John to become a Christian, to ask Jesus into his heart. His Sunday school, teachers, his mission friends leaders, his RA leaders, his church choir leaders, Vacation Bible School, all of those continued to bring John to the point where at a church camp, he asked Jesus into his heart. John 10:28-30 says He gives us eternal life, and no one can snatch them out of His hand. What a blessing it is to know that.
