Volunteer Christian Builders (VCB) is a statewide organization of people who donate their time and efforts in the ministry of church building construction. Many people at FBC Allen participate in this ministry. Each spring a group travels to a location to donate one week of time for church construction, typically in March coinciding with Allen ISD spring break. The group also participates in local weekend projects throughout the year.
Purpose
Assist small churches in the construction or upgrade of church buildings which they could not afford on their own.
Projects
A one week-long project is selected each year, working Monday a.m. through Friday p.m. We normally start the initial framing on a bare slab and complete as much as possible in the week; the amount of progress depends upon the size and complexity of the building. The local church pays for building materials and food costs, but expenses for travel to and from the church site are up to each individual. The group is family-oriented; usually, the men perform the construction and the ladies perform cooking duties and child care. Mealtimes, fellowship, and devotionals are shared throughout the week. We typically live on-site in R.V.s, motels, church member homes, or whatever accommodations are available.
The group also participates in local weekend projects throughout the year.
Participation
All are welcome to participate, even if it's only for a few hours. There are no skills required. A group leader will be coordinating all tasks necessary.
Retirees
For those who are retired or otherwise have more time available, there are multiple opportunities throughout the year to work for one or two weeks with other retirees from across the state. No special skills or talents are required; you can get involved at any level, depending upon your available time and abilities.
